Lili' Queen of Brass

After a research internship with the Boulanger Initiative where she collected and documented works by women and gender-marginalized composers such as Queen Lili'uokalani, Doezema was asked to arrange song selections for brass quartet by members of the Hawai'i Symphony. 

"Argonautical" Album Feature

Los Angeles Philharmonic double bassist, Jory Herman, commissioned a piece for bass and piano for his album "Argonautical." Doezema's piece, "Gecko," is featured on the album alongside other new works by women composers.

Rhythmic Movement in Martial Arts

Doezema presented her paper, "Rhythmic Movement in Martial Arts" at the American Musicological Society Pacific-Southwest Chapter Western Coast Conference for Music theory and analysis on May 18th, 2024.

University of Florida Wind Ensemble Performance

UNF's wind ensemble with conductor Erin Bodnar performed Doezema's wind ensemble with violin solo "Unwelcome" in concert in April 2024.

University of Hawai'i at Manoa

Doezema joins the music composition program at UHM to pursue her master's degree in music composition

Festivals, Workshops, And Colloquiums

Doezema frequently participates in music festivals where her music is workshopped and performed by professional musicians.

Sao Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival

Doezema's percussion quartet, "Furiosa" will be performed at SPCCF in August 2024 by percussion ensemble GRUPU with dance choreography by Núcleo Redes UNICAMP.

Salastina Sounds Promising

Doezema takes part in an apprenticeship program for composers 18-30 with premiere of composers’ new work by Salastina ensembles. Her piece, "One," was workshopped and performed by Salastina musicians.

Doezema's piece, "A Worm Will Turn" was performed by Mivos String Quartet in the Mozarthaus in June 2024 as part of VCCF.

Composing in the Wilderness

The Composing in the Wilderness field course is a collaboration with Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, Alaska Geographic, and the National Park Service. Doezema accompanied 8 other composers in exploring Alaska's backcountry and writing original chamber pieces to be performed July of 2023.

Precept. Concept. Percept

Doezema takes part in discussions with fellow musicians and artists as part of "Precept. Concept. Percept." Her piece, "Rock Fever" for electric guitar and string quartet will be performed by .abeceda.

Seattle Opera Creation Lab

From August 2022 through June 2023, Doezema will participate in the 2022/2023 Creation Lab alongside six other librettists and five other composers. Each composer collaborates with a matched librettist to create a 20 minute work to be performed by Seattle Opera musicians. Doezema's opera, "Ghost in the Forest" was premiered in June 2023.

Mostly Modern Festival Netherlands

MMF Netherlands takes place in Middelburg, Netherlands celebrating living composers from all over the world. In partnership with the Zeeland School of Music, MMF ensembles perform and premiere work from selected composers. Doezema's participated in April 2023 where her piece, "Dreams of Drought" was workshopped and performed.

Tidrik's Climate Action Workshop

In June 2020, Mieke Doezema joined other composers online with Gabriella Lena Frank to learn and discuss how to use artistic voice to combat Climate Change.

Hidden Valley's Emerging Composer Intensive

From June 26th through July 2nd 2022, Doezema worked with performers and artists such as Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu, Wang Jie, and Nick DiBerardino. Her violin and piano duet will be premiered on July 1st along with other emerging composers' works. Her violin and piano duet, "Salt," was performed by Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu and Drew Peterson in concert as part of the festival.

Alexandra Gardner's Scale Up Program

From January to June of 2021, Doezema participated in the Scale Up Program, lead by Alexandra Gardner. Her piece, "I Am the Fire Beneath Your Feet" was performed by the Soli Chamber Ensemble at the end of the program.

Del Mar International Composers Symposium

In the summer of 2021, Doezema joined five other student composers in writing original works to be performed at the DMICS festival in Del Mar. She attended lectures and workshops with fellow composers such as Jordan Kuspa, Juri Seo, Joseph Sowa, Polina Nazaykinskaya, Nicholas Benevides, and Quinn Mason. Her piece, "Anthropocene, A Lament to Earth," was performed by the DMICS performers in August 2021 at the festival.

Curtis Young Artists Summer Program

Doezema was able to work with  and participate in seminars with composers and faculty from Curtis Institute as well as other artists such as David Serkin Ludwig, Nick DiBerardino, Alex Weiser, Dimitri Tymoczko, Wang Jie, Daniel Ott, Shinuh Lee, Reena Esmail, and Daniel Felsenfeld. Doezema was also given the opportunity to write for performers in the program and alumni of Curtis Institute.

Cascade Conducting and Composing Workshop

Doezema was able to work with Tacoma Symphony resident composer and Chair of Curtis' Composition Department, David Serkin Ludwig, in June 2020. Additionally, Doezema was given the opportunity to participate in online seminars and masterclass lead by David Ludwig and Sarah Ioannides, conductor and Music Director of Symphony Tacoma. Doezema wrote "Godless Galisteo," a symphony premiered by the Cascade Conducting Orchestra in June of 2021 along with five other composers' work and selected conducting participants.
