SEATTLE OPERA CREATION LAB

From August 2022 through June 2023, Doezema will participate in the 2022/2023 Creation Lab alongside six other librettists and five other composers. Each composer collaborates with a matched librettist to create a 20 minute work to be performed by Seattle Opera musicians. Doezema's opera, "Ghost in the Forest" will premiere in June 2023.

COMPOSING IN THE WILDERNESS

The Composing in the Wilderness field course is a collaboration with Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, Alaska Geographic, and the National Park Service. Doezema will accompany 8 other composers in exploring Alaska's backcountry and writing original chamber pieces in July of 2023.

EMERGING COMPOSER INTENSIVE

From June 26th through July 2nd, Doezema will be working with performers and artists such as Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu, Wang Jie, and Nick DiBerardino. Her violin and piano duet will be premiered on July 1st along with other emerging composers' works.

DMICS FESTIVAL

In the summer of 2021, Doezema joined five other student composers in writing original works to be performed at the DMICS festival in Del Mar. She attended lectures and workshops with fellow composers such as Jordan Kuspa, Juri Seo, Joseph Sowa, Polina Nazaykinskaya, Nicholas Benevides, and Quinn Mason. Her piece, "Anthropocene, A Lament to Earth," was performed by the DMICS performers in August 2021 at the festival.

TIDRIK'S CLIMATE ACTION WORKSHOP 2020

In June 2020, Mieke Doezema joined other composers online with Gabriella Lena Frank to learn and discuss how to use artistic voice to combat Climate Change.

SCALE UP PROGRAM

From January to June of 2021, Doezema participated in the Scale Up Program, lead by Alexandra Gardner. Her piece, "I Am the Fire Beneath Your Feet" was performed by the Soli Chamber Ensemble at the end of the program.

YOUNG ARTISTS SUMMER PROGRAM AT CURTIS

Doezema was able to work with  and participate in seminars with composers and faculty from Curtis Institute as well as other artists such as David Serkin Ludwig, Nick DiBerardino, Alex Weiser, Dimitri Tymoczko, Wang Jie, Daniel Ott, Shinuh Lee, Reena Esmail, and Daniel Felsenfeld. Doezema was also given the opportunity to write for performers in the program and alumni of Curtis Institute.

CASCADE CONDUCTING WORKSHOP

Doezema was able to work with Tacoma Symphony resident composer and Chair of Curtis' Composition Department, David Serkin Ludwig, in June 2020. Additionally, Doezema was given the opportunity to participate in online seminars and masterclass lead by David Ludwig and Sarah Ioannides, conductor and Music Director of Symphony Tacoma. Doezema was given the opportunity to write a piece to be premiered by the Cascade Conducting Orchestra in June of 2021 along with five other composers' work and selected conducting participants.

DOEZEMA PARTICIPATES IN CONDUCTING WORKSHOP AT MT VERNON HIGH SCHOOL

In March of 2020, Doezema was able to workshop "Apollo Unleashed" by Frank Ticheli with Jake Scherr and the Mt. Vernon High School Wind Ensemble.

DOEZEMA COMPOSITION RECITAL

On November 8th, 2019, Doezema held her Senior Composition Recital and Honors Project: Evolution to Equilibrium- an exploration of trauma, healing, and accountability. Doezema organized live performances of her work (Evolution to Equilibrium, Forget Me Not, and Unwelcome) in conjunction with two guest speakers: Tracey Pyscher and an advocate from DVSAS (domestic violence and sexual assault services). Through her music, Doezema spoke out against harassment and abuse both in the world and in the music department itself.
